Kerala is the most beautiful state in southwestern India and no one wants to miss this place to visit in his/her lifetime. It is called as the God’s own country. It is named as one of the “Ten Paradises of the world” and “50 places of a lifetime” by one of the popular magazine National Geographic Traveler. We have listed the top tourist destinations in Kerala here in this article.

There are several reasons to say Kerala is one of the best tourist places in India. First one is its natural beauty. It gives refreshing to both body and mind. Second reason is it’s Backwaters. And the third reason is its Ayurvedic treatment. Yes, the Ayurvedic treatment provided in Kerala are one of “The best” in the world.

The Kerala state is always overwhelmed by the tourists throughout the year. Tourists can visit this place at any time in the year. Apart from the aforementioned three reasons; the Kerala is best place to visit the sanctuaries and historic temples. The Kerala people are unique in their lifestyle, look, culture and tradition.

In this article I have discussed the top 6 tourist places in Kerala that everyone should not miss while visiting Kerala.

1. Thiruvananthapuram:

It is the capital of Kerala state and it is also called Trivandrum. It is famous for Padmanabha Swamy Temple. Only Hindu people are allowed to enter into this temple. Other popular tourist places in Trivandrum are Sri Chitra art gallery, Napier museum, palaces of the family of the maharaja of Travancore, Kovalam beach etc.

The Kovalam beach is one of the best beaches in the world which is situated 18km from Trivandrum. You can take sun bath on the sandy beach and swimming in the Arabian Sea. Apart from this you can enjoy the sports such as jet skiing, water skiing, catamaran rides and surfing.

2. Kochi:

It is the famous port city of Kerala state and is called as “Queen of the Arabian Sea”. It is famous for its beaches and the monumental heritage. One of the best place to visit in this district is St.Francis Church. It is one of the oldest churches built-in India by the Europe people.

Next to that you can go and visit the Matancherry; it is just 5 km from Kochi. Some of the tourist spots in this places are Jewish Synagogue, Santa Cruz Basilica, Jew Town, Dutch Palace etc.

3. Alappuzha/Alleppey:

Alappuzha is called as the “Venice of the East”; and is well-known for its backwaters. Shree Krishna Temple is famous in this area. The tourists are advised to visit this place during the month of August; because the famous snake boat race is held in this area during that time period. The team participated in this race are competing for Nehru Gold cup.

Apart from backwater, the Alappuzha is famous for several reasons. It is the only place in the world other than Holland where rice is seeded under the sea level. From Alappuzha within 1 hour journey a tourist can reach the Kumarakom. It is the famous paradisiacal place in Kerala. Besides fishing the tourists can see the Kumarakom Bird sanctuary and Bay Island Driftwood Museum.

4. Munnar:

It is one of the most preferred tourist places in Kerala especially for new couples. This most beautiful Hill Stations in Kerala is famous for its flourishing tea gardens. This place is surrounded with the natural beauty of winding lanes, cloudy hills and exotic plants.Due to that it is the good place of mountain biking and trekking.

Tourists are advised not to miss the Cheeyapara waterfalls, dams, Eravikulam National Park, tea museum etc. The surrounding places such as Chinnakanal, Anayirangal, Pallivasal, Mattupetty and Anamudi Peak are the best tourist places in Munnar.

Tourists are advised to spend 3-4 days to enjoy the in and around places of Munnar. People’s who stays in this place are also advised to visit the Marayoor. It is just 42km away from Munnar and is well-known for its Sandalwood factory and forests. Apart from this you can also visit Rajiv Gandhi Children’s Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Muniyara Caves etc.

5. Thekkady:

Thekkady is one of the fastest growing tourists spot in Kerala. It is just 100km away from Munnar.The world famous Periyar National Park is situated in this area. Aside of the Park, this place is popular for Tribal Heritage Museum and Mangaladevi temple.

6. Kozhikode:

The Kozhikode is also referred to as Calicut. This city is famous for historical sites, beaches and wildlife sanctuaries. The beach is located around a kilometer from the main city and is famous for sunset viewers. Next to that Beypore port is famous in this place. It is located 10km away from the city. This Beypore port formerly known as Beypuram has historical significance.
