Scratch disks are used by Photoshop as virtual memory or temporary space for performing operations when your random access memory of your system is low.

Ways To Fix Scratch Disk Full Error:
1) Use A Different Drive:
If you are having many hard disk partitions on your system, then using a different partition from the one where the Windows operating system is installed will fix the scratch disk is full error. You can do this by click on Edit -> Preferences -> Performance and then selecting a different partition for scratch disks (either D or E or F drive based on the number of your partitions).
Usually many people without noticing select their scratch disks as the “C drive” where Windows OS is installed and this will result in the error. So the next time you are installing Adobe Photoshop, pay attention and select a different partition for the scratch disks.
2) Expanding Your Hard Drive:
Scratch disks full error shows up because of lack of usable space for Photoshop to perform its functions. To avoid this completely, you can buy a new big hard drive with lots of space or you can buy a external hard disk drive and use it only when you are using Adobe Photoshop. 3) Deleting Photoshop Temporary Files:
While using Photoshop, if it gets crashed or if you shut it down improperly then a large amount of temporary files will get left behind in your hard disk. The temporary file name of Photoshop in Windows is ~PST####.tmp and on Mac is Temp#### (#### are numbers).
4) Deleted Unwanted Files In Hard Disk:

These files are occupying space which can be used by Photoshop as temporary “swap” space. So the next time you get the “scratch disk is full” error while using Adobe Photoshop, delete the unwanted files in your hard disk and increase the free space on your hard disk.
5) Defragmenting Hard Disk Drive:
Sometimes even if your disk has enough free space, you might get the “Disk full” error on Photoshop. Since Photoshop requires unfragmented free space for scratch disks, your hard disk might not have them. So whenever you get the disk full error even when your disks have free space, defragment your hard disk manually. You can make use of tools like Auslogics Disk Defrag, Defraggler, MyDefrag, etc., for this purpose.
6) Cropping Scratch Disks Error:
If you encounter the scratch disks full error while cropping an image in Adobe Photoshop, then its most likely that you have entered the resolution and size value in the crop tool options bar or you might have entered wrong values. For example, if you enter 1200 x 1600 without noticing your units set as inches rather than pixels will result in the creation of a large file which will automatically result in the scratch disk is full error. So always pay attention while entering the dimensions while creating a new file.
