The Bermuda Triangle is a strange area in the Atlantic Ocean, where not only humans but also ships and planes have disappeared off the coast of Florida and Cuba, according to both official and unofficial sources. It is a triangular area between Miami, Florida, San Juan, Porto Rico, and the island of Bermuda (named after its discoverer in 1503, Juan de Bermudez). Is the Bermuda region as dangerous and popular as most of us believe?
The US Navy believes in any case not, i.e., they do not admit the triangle’s weirdness. However, there are plenty of conspiracy theories which claim there is indeed something that makes the Bermuda Triangle is so dangerous. What these statements (or conspiracy theories) exactly suggest, we’ll cover in this top six.
We begin mild, with some (semi) scientific explanations. But don’t worry, we also treat the slightly wilder, and more popular theories, like aliens for example!
1. Human error
Obviously, there must be explained why in this area all ships and sometimes planes disappear, and simply there are not so many accidents than elsewhere, also with no explanation for the accidents. Fortunately, we have done a very rational explanation for the logicians among us who do not participate in alien madness and name it: Human error.
It is quite possible that most of (if not all) accidents can be attributed to crew errors of the unfortunate vehicle or the external information. We take Harvey Conover as an example of fatal human error: stubbornness. Harvey sailed in 1958 without considering the judgment (and better advice) about the Bermuda Triangle and died there.
But there was nothing mysterious; he sailed exactly in the middle of one of the most violent storms of the season! No, we can attribute a lot of (nonsense) to aliens, but this was a case of human error. And so there would be more accidents in Bermuda which can be explained, according to supporters of this theory.
But if this is a solution, it is not enough. After all, why people do not make such human failures often outside the Bermuda Triangle? What is there within the triangle that attracts us to make more mistakes? Some technical and scientific explanations can help us to understand better.

2. Compass variations
A different explanation obviously is compass variations. The compasses of ships and aircraft should always point neatly to the north, and as such, they can keep a ship or aircraft in the right way. What if, however, the compass of a ship is not working properly in the Triangle region? Scientifically it is not such a strange assumption because there are many places on earth where an ordinary compass does not point exactly to the north.
For example the poles or the Gobi Desert, a compass does not point exactly to the north, but it turns instead somewhat unstable around.
One scientific factoid well-known for centuries is that a compass point a little different to the real North. So it is not so “strange” that the compass doesn’t work properly for large distances in places like the Triangle. But there were many emergency calls from ships which come in Bermuda, disappeared from the radar and left a message: “Compass runaway!”
3. Gravitational Fields
Gravity occurs in certain concentrations, although we do not notice this because we are so familiar with it. However, sometimes there is a certain bulge in concentration in astrophysical terms. At such places, the gravity level suddenly is much higher than normal. In fact, there is anywhere on earth a tiny variation of gravity, but it is usually so small as we can’t perceive it.
However, the supporters of this statement say there is a mass concentration under the Bermuda Triangle able to sunk all ships.
4. The Gulf Stream
The Gulf Stream is a kind of ocean-river, it is a warm current in the Atlantic flowing among others along the East Coast of North America (and then Europe is warming up). This stream is about 100 kilometers wide and a kilometer deep and the speed is about 2.5 meters per second (9 kph). For an otherwise pretty calm ocean, this is a decent speed. Guess where this movement is fastest.
Exactly, in the Bermuda Triangle region. Consequently, the Gulf Stream is one of the most popular scapegoats for the Bermuda disappearances. The Gulf Stream is a particular explanation for why ships have gone from the radar. Instead of their dematerialized by aliens, the ship may be simply a piece of the Gulf Stream along floated.
Ships don’t sink directly as bricks do, but remain floating for a while. But why all those crashed ships and planes were not found? If you did not find sufficient solutions to the mystery, then perhaps the following explanation may enlighten you.
If you didn’t like the scapegoats above mentioned, then you may be interested in this one: Atlantis. About four or five kilometers underwater, near the coast of Bimini Islands (in the Bermuda region), was found structures made apparently by human hands. It is called the Bimini Road and was discovered in 1986 by scuba divers.
It is a construction of limestone and looks like a road, as you suspected. It is so regular and well sanded that everyone thinks that it was made by humans. And considering it is placed underwater, it must be an indication of Atlantis, the sunken city.
Okay, so Atlantis, near the Bermuda Triangle. What has that to do with sunken ships? Now, what if the sunken city has survived and its inhabitants advanced the Atlantis culture? Such an underwater civilization would indeed be very advanced to survive there. Only a few animals can! And if they are so advanced, we can also easily EMF attribute to them, right? Hence and all the sunken ships and planes, and the mysterious debris! After all, even the most advanced civilization need spare time to have fun stealing from us.
Finally, we ended up explaining where everyone was waiting for: aliens. There is no need for complex physics statements or explanations, after all, aliens have technology which is so far ahead of ours that we can not understand. All problems are solved!
And why would aliens have to do with the Bermuda Triangle? Evidently, aliens are obviously interested in the human race and want copies of us to experiment with. These would include explaining what happened to the USS Cyclops, a naval ship that brought not less than 11,000 tons of manganese, and vanished, leaving no trace behind. That happened in 1918, long time ago, and we didn’t have then the technique to follow such activities. So it must have been aliens!
